Why do you travel?
I travel because there’s nothing better than that butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling of getting on a plane and landing in a totally new world. I love experiencing new things and taking a break from the day-to-day reality to explore something fresh and different.
Share a travel experience that really shaped who you are today.
My semester in Paris was a formative experience for me. It taught me how to be independent and how to cherish time alone; how to travel light; how to plan and organize a trip; how to deal with difficult personalities (you never know someone until you travel with them, right?) and opened my eyes to completely new cuisine, art, and culture. I pushed myself far beyond what was comfortable by living with a host family and taking classes at a French university for a fully immersive experience. I’m a much more savvy and well-rounded person today as a result of my time abroad.
Check a bag or carry on?
Always carry on!
Do you collect souvenirs when you travel? If so, what?
Yes. I like to get little curiosities and knick knacks that I can fill my shelves at home with. They’re decorative pieces that are great conversation starters, and I love being surrounded by travel memories at home.
You just won an all expenses paid trip. Where are you going? Who are you taking with you?
All the nooks and crannies of Europe that are hard to access on a short trip, like Portofino, French Riviera, Alsace, Sardinia and Calabria, and pockets of Eastern Europe. I would take my boyfriend Andrew with me – our travel styles are perfectly in-sync!
Where are you heading next?
Maine for MDW; London in June to visit some ex-pat friends and experience The Royal Ascot; then Napa for a Bastille Day wedding celebration.
