Why do you travel?
Perspective! To understand and expose myself to other cultures and people. To break down misconceptions I have about certain cultures. To learn! To grow! To meet friends from all over the world. To remind myself how alike we all are.
Share a travel experience that really shaped who you are today.
When I was in college, I studied abroad in London for a few months. My family growing up never really traveled outside of the United States, so this was my first experience in a big city and to travel to different cultures. All the travel gurus out there will understand this, but once you get a taste of travel, it’s impossible to stop. I’ve since been back to Europe more than 10x and crossed so many amazing places off my bucket list. If it weren’t for that experiencing studying abroad though, I don’t know that I ever would have been as passionate about seeing more of the world.
Check a bag or carry on?
Carry on! Always!
Do you collect souvenirs when you travel? If so, what?
I live in NYC in a very small apartment, so this makes souvenirs hard. That has not stopped me though, my favorite souvenir I’ve ever collected is of a custom wooden buddha that I got in the rainforest in Costa Rica that carries the Costan Rican phrase ‘Pura Vida’ which means ‘pure life’ and really imulates how they live there.
You just won an all expenses paid trip. Where are you going? Who are you taking with you?
I’ve been really into the idea of a safari recently, so I’d definitely go all out on a full safari experience in South Africa. This type of experience would be so different than anything I’ve been exposed to before and I know it would be completely life-changing. The beauty of seeing animals in their natural habitat and being able to be very disconnected from my day-to-day experiences would be unforgettable.
Where are you heading next?
It’s summer in NYC so Montauk, the Hamptons & Nantucket! After that I’ll be spending some time on the West Coast as a California girl.
